Sugarcane model intercomparison: Structural differences and uncertainties under current and potential future climates
نویسندگان
چکیده
Sugarcane is one of the world's main carbohydrates sources. We analysed the APSIM-Sugar (AS) and DSSAT/CANEGRO (DC) models to determine their structural differences, and how these differences affect their predictions of crop growth and production. The AS model under predicted yield at the hotter sites, because the algorithm for computing the degree-days is based in only one upper cardinal temperature. In response to elevated CO2, both predicted higher yields, although AS showed higher sensitivity to CO2 concentration, rainfall and temperature than DC. The Mean of simulations from both models produced better estimations than predictions from either model individually. Thus, applying the two models (in their current form) is likely to give the more accurate predictions than focusing on one model alone. © 2015 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.

Modeling Current and Future Potential Distributions of Caspian Pond Turtle (Mauremys caspica) under Climate Change Scenarios
Although turtles are the most threatened taxonomic group within the reptile class, we have a very limited understanding of how turtles respond to climate change. Here, we evaluated the effects of climate changes on the geographical distribution of Caspian pond turtle (Mauremys caspica). We used an ensemble approach by combining six species distribution models including artificial neural network...
متن کاملAtmospheric Tracer Transport Model Intercomparison Project (TransCom)
A multi-phase program of model intercomparison is proposed to reduce uncertainties in the global carbon budget resulting from differences among atmospheric tracer transport simulations. The TransCom program is already well underway, having begun in 1993 and completed two major experiments. The results to date are summarized in a Technical Report and indicate that significant differences among t...
متن کاملPredicting future uncertainty constraints on global warming projections
Projections of global mean temperature changes (ΔT) in the future are associated with intrinsic uncertainties. Much climate policy discourse has been guided by "current knowledge" of the ΔTs uncertainty, ignoring the likely future reductions of the uncertainty, because a mechanism for predicting these reductions is lacking. By using simulations of Global Climate Models from the Coupled Model In...
متن کاملProposed RAPID UK model THC intercomparison project
Human activities may significantly increase the risk of rapid climate change in the coming decades by inducing a possible slowdown of the Atlantic Ocean thermohaline circulation (THC), a fundamental controlling factor on the European climate owing to its crucial role in transporting northward the excess of heat imparted in the equatorial regions. The ultimate objective of the NERC funded RAPID ...
متن کاملIncorporating Cold-Air Pooling into Downscaled Climate Models Increases Potential Refugia for Snow-Dependent Species within the Sierra Nevada Ecoregion, CA
We present a unique water-balance approach for modeling snowpack under historic, current and future climates throughout the Sierra Nevada Ecoregion. Our methodology uses a finer scale (270 m) than previous regional studies and incorporates cold-air pooling, an atmospheric process that sustains cooler temperatures in topographic depressions thereby mitigating snowmelt. Our results are intended t...
